Why you should be on an MS diet
A man I know who got MS asked hisdoctor "Do I have to give up Ice Cream"? "Of course not", said her Neurologist - and that was that. Another Neurologist said "they've lost so much already, I don't want to take that (fatty foods) away from them as well!"
So just how important is icecream and burgers anyway? Here's a link to a recent study showing a corelation between Cholesterol levels and progression. Of course, corelation is not causation. But if you're wondering if you should be on a diet - and an MS diet should be low saturated fat, which lowers cholesterol, look at this study. It's a modest effect. What's modest? I don't know. What if it's only 1% difference in the course of a year. What about after 10 or 20 years. is it worth it? It's easier than you think to give up unhealthy foods that you will soon find disgusting. Then your weight starts to drop and maybe your joints feel better. You have more energy... But here's the conclusion. You can find the study with the link. So if you're here and you're considering it, why not try for 6 months. Worsening disability is associated with higher levels of LDL, total cholesterol and triglycerides. Higher HDL is associated with lower levels of acute inflammatory activity.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21970791 This is the diet I'm on. It's very easy to follow and I still eat delicious food. There are others that you may prefer. http://www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.org/Recovery-Program/Program-Overview/ |

I agree that being on a MS diet is an important thing we can do for ourselves. There's no solid proof of effectiveness, but there's enough anecdotal evidence for me. No potential for harm, and the possibility of doing some good.
The diet I prefer, with suitable modifications for a vegan, is: http://msrecoverydiet.com/ It's an Americanized version of the Best Bet Diet, and is very close to the Paleo Diet. |

Good advice. At least, I think so.
I am also dairy-free and gluten-free. It is not hard to change dietary habits! Really! It has been years since I put dressing on my salads, and now I do not care for them. Salads are better without them, my opinion. It is truly amazing what you can do. Mind over matter, so to speak. Give it a try and see what happens. |

When it comes to cooked veggies, I dropped butter many years ago and haven't missed it at all. |
