Beginning a Different Life
by Brian Chartier, aka cadiman1
Sometimes we look for a miracle cure when we start reading these studies and get disappointed when the reality check comes in. It takes trial and error and we must be thankful that there is at least trial out there. Most forms of cancer are still in existence today because there has yet to be a cure. That has not stopped the trying.
The same can be said about many conditions such as diabetes or others. We must always persist and support the efforts that are made to improve the lives of people living with MS. I was recently appointed to the regional board of the MS Society. I will not change the world but I will do what I can to ensure we are moving in a forward direction.
MS is a disease. It is unusual in that it can manifest itself in a variety of forms and affect people very differently. Some may be disabled, others have pain or discomfort and so on. You are here because you have experience some form of abnormality which led to a diagnosis of MS.
Whether severe or not, your reality is the same if you are in a wheelchair or simply living with sore legs. MS affects your life. That is the bottom line. While it affects us each differently, it affects us nonetheless and we have to adjust or change our lives to accommodate whatever form of MS we have.
I can only offer this advice;
1) Never stop being yourself,
2) Read and learn about MS,
3) Share your condition with others, they should know your limitations,
4) Become medically astute, know when you need to see a doctor,
5) Share your experiences with others, that is how we all learn.
MS is not the end of your life. It is simply the beginning of a different one. Embrace your virtues and deal with your limitations. You shall survive and live to fight many more battles.
